What Does 9/10 cm Mean?

Saffron bulbs are graded by circumference — the measurement around the bulb.

Our Premium 9/10 cm bulbs measure approximately 9 to 10 centimeters around the corm.

When comparing saffron bulbs, pay attention to the size grade. 9/10 cm and Jumbo 11+ cm are different sizes of planting stock. Our 9/10 cm bulbs offer an excellent balance of size and value, while our 11+ cm bulbs are our largest premium Jumbo offering.

Grow Your Own Saffron

Each fall, Crocus sativus produces beautiful purple flowers containing the valuable red stigmas known as saffron.

The red stigmas can be harvested by hand and carefully dried for use as saffron spice. After flowering, allow the foliage to continue growing so the plant can replenish the corm for the next growing cycle.

Over time, established saffron corms can produce daughter corms underground, allowing your saffron planting to multiply.
